I was feeling a bit quirky, so you get umbrella cats and a polka dot bow tie. Hehe. ;P This outfit might have looked better if I hadn't worn the black tights underneath, but it was so cold and windy. Bah! >_<

I'm also wearing a cute thrifted pom pom hat. I found the hat to be a little bit on the tight side, but I do have a bit of a melon head. >_< Haha. Also, I discovered two downsides to having shaved off half the hair on my head. First, chill winds on your scalp really sucks. Second, it's a wee bit difficult to wear a hat and have a snazzy up-do at the same time. So. Yeah. I'm still trying to figure this all out. ;P

I wasn't sure if the navy/brown saddle shoes were too much. They go so well with the chambray dress and the navy pea coat. I thought maybe plain brown or black shoes would be better with the cat socks, but ultimately I just said, 'what the hell.' If I'm going to do the whole academic / nerdy / quirky thing, I might as well go all in. Hehe. Oh and I got the chambray dress from eShakti about two years ago. It was my first custom purchase from them. ^_^ The original had a butterfly print and mandarin collar. I had the print removed; a shirt collar added and the hem extended just below the knee.

Meet Bernadette of Outfits Not Just Clothes

When I discovered Bernadette awhile back on Chictopia, I was immediately drawn to her bold use of colors and prints. I generally struggle with figuring out how to meld those two things without looking like a clown. Hehe. So, I'm always on the look out for bloggers who know how to mix both.

Clothes are things that you wear for their practical use. Outfits, on the other hand, they're a whole different story and it's clear that Bernadette gets that. She has a passion for style and I find that she truly exemplifies the name of her blog.

The outfit on the left is just absolutely stunning. The pattern work on the dress is so flattering and the white cardigan really pops. It's hard to tell that Bernadette is laden with baby! Hehe. :DDD

Also, this would be a good time to mention that Bernadette is in the midst of a maternity style challenge. Essentially, she's investigating ways to stay true to her personal aesthetic while being pregnant. So, if you're expecting and you need some style ideas, you'll find a wealth of good tips on Bernadette's blog. One thing that you'll learn straight away: you can still have fun with patterns!

On that note, check out the lace and polka dot ensemble on the right! Holy sh*t! I feel like I could look at it for days. Haha. It's really fantastic. I would never think to do that kind of combination.

I love the mix of plaid and houndstooth (and tweed! <3) in the last photo, too. When it comes to colors and prints, Bernadette is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Keep up the great work! In addition to her blog, you can also find Bernadette on Facebook and Instagram!
