Floral Dot Matrix

I must apologize for the seriousness of my countenance, but creepers were in full force on this fine, sunny evening. Hehe. I knew that I wasn't having deja vu when I saw the same car pass by twice as these photos were being taken. My partner told me that he saw a couple (driver and passenger) crane their necks to look at me as they drove by. He wondered aloud how they managed not to crash into parked cars along the way. o_O I don't live in a large metropolitan area. My city is comprised of about 240,000 people. As you can imagine, I get noticed often when I go out. Anyway, I really don't mind if people want to slow down and ogle me, as long as they don't try to kidnap or stab me! >_<

The floral tapestry blazer is all kinds of amaze, you guys. You know how much I can't resist grandma flavors in my fabrics and prints. This could totally be fabric from some granny's couch. :DDD I was lucky enough to thrift it and I know it will get a lot of wear, because it is absolutely brilliant. <3 ^_^ <3

Soooo. Yeah. Check this sh*t out! I'm clashing, again! Squee! I remember when the stripes and florals pairing was a controversial move. It was seen as daring, unconventional, against the grain. To me, that meant that people were finally starting to accept style that went beyond the norm. When I was in Japan back in the day, I saw some real craziness with patterns that was just so refreshing. What I saw made stripes and florals look like amateur hour. Haha. However, now, everyone's doing some variation of stripes and florals. It has become main stream and, as a result, it has lost a bit of wow factor.

It has become the "safe way" to be a little more avant garde with one's style. So, I've been trying to think of prints that I don't see together as often. Previously, I did houndstooth and apples. o_O Hehe. This time, I'm trying something comparatively less hurtful on the eyes: florals and polka dots. ;D

The polka dot dress is something that I haven't worn for a long time and this surprises me, because it's fantastic. I guess it's because I view it as my 'special occasion' dress, since I tend to gravitate towards it when I'm celebrating something. This time, it was just a regular old day of brunch and backgammon. Oh my god, that made me sound like such an old. T_T Haha. I *love* backgammon, though, so shush! Anyway, with luck, I'll start to wear the dress more casually. I tried to dilute the formal vintage feel of the outfit with the edgy shoes and sunglasses (and a dash of attitude), but I still look dressed up. Heh. All I managed to do is look like a tough girl in nice clothes. Ehh, I'm OK with it. >:D~

Awwww yeah. Feast your eyes on that layer cake of patterns and textures. :D This is such a simple outfit with just the dress and blazer, so that was another reason for why I chose these particular prints. I feel like, when taken together, they have so much to say. I tried to say something profound, with as few words as possible, so to speak. In that regard, maybe the lace trim under the dress is a sign of my penchant for verbosity. >_< I wanted to add a little more length, because the dress is short on me. So, I just wore a black pleated lace skirt under it, instead of bike shorts. Maybe the lace is too much?

Omg, it's the sun! Hey, girl? Where you been hidin'?

I don't think it's too distracting. I like it. ^_^ I like this whole outfit. Yeah, that's the ticket! Haha. Going forward, I'm going to give more thought to interesting pattern combinations. I'll probably continue to do stripes and florals on occasion, but I really want to see what else is out there and explore the unknown.

Razzle dazzle! o_O O_o *opens curtains and bangs pots and pans* Carpe diem and all that, bitches! :D Wakey Wakeeyyyy! Haha. I got your hangover helper, right here. If this outfit doesn't wake you up and/or make you want to drink yourself blind just to spare you from the clashing prints then I dunno what will. >=] People will either love this or hate it. Even I was a little bit on the fence about it.

This mix of prints brought me so much joy, though. I felt happy just looking at it. I got the idea, last summer. Initially, I tried on the apple print dress with the corduroy houndstooth pants and the dress was too bunchy. Yes, that IS a dress, people. Magic! Hehe. Click here to see it full length. The pants sat too low on my waist and the waist was just too big to begin with. I was obsessed with this pairing. So, I got the pants tailored. The seamstress added an extra two inches in length and took in the waist a bit for me. I wasn't able to wear the combo last Fall or this Winter, so I couldn't wait for Spring to arrive.

I swear. I lint rolled this coat before I left the house!

You can totally see where the waist of the dress is, too. Haha. I typically don't care about that, though. All I care about is achieving what I set out to achieve (i.e. to combine two radical prints that I love and make it work). In that regard, the additional two inches of height on my waist band really helped. ^_^

I don't care if this look is unpalatable to a majority of people. The mix of prints made me so happy. I was giddy all f*cking day and it was this combination that inspired me to alter my pants in the first place. Heh. I've never had a piece of clothing altered *just* so that I could wear it with some other piece in my wardrobe. It's a crazy outfit, but I'm owning it. I take full responsibility for your temporary blindness. ;P
