In the illustrious words of Sergeant Doakes from Dexter, "Surprise, mofo!" >:D Hahaha. Ahh. Classic Doakes. I miss that show. Anyway, I have another harbinger of death outfit for you. Yesssss. One look from me will kill you! Kill you dead. All I did was use old pieces from my closet and put a twist on them.

Picture

Come closer. Closer. Yes, yes, but don't look at me, you fool! Do you have a death wish?! Look away! Good. Now, let me explain what I did here. ;D
First, I started with the usual thermal undergarments for warmth, though I found that I didn't really need them. It was crazy warm out! F*cking hate when that happens. What the hell is up with the weather, lately? Anyway, I started out with a black sweater on top and thick black leggings on the bottom. Then I put on a sleeveless, asymmetrical white dress.

Picture

I took a sleeveless black, high low top and slipped that on over the dress, but this time, I wore it backwards! :D
Yeah. Mixing things up and all that. In so doing, I cover up the white dress in the front, but leave some of it exposed in the back. Then, I did something that I'm super excited about. I put on a sleeveless, fur hooded vest and then layered my fringed poncho and buttoned shrug over it. :D

Picture

I don't normally say this about myself, because I'm most comfortable wading in a pool of self-deprecation, but I think the hood idea is pretty f*cking genius. When I had this outfit on my mannequin, I thought: 'Ahh, man. I wish I had a big "red riding" hood to wear with this. It's just missing that little something extra.' Then, I remembered that I had a faux leather hooded vest that I thrifted ages ago and that the hood on it is pretty deep. However, there was the issue of how to work the hood into the outfit without making it look as if I was wearing a whole bunch of clothes (and I *was* wearing a whole bunch of clothes heh). So, I had to choose my fabrics carefully and the fringe poncho expertly hid the vest without making my chest area look bulky. I love that the hood looks like it is attached to some part of the outfit. I don't think it is readily noticeable that it is a completely separate piece. :P

Also, the crosshair sunglasses are the coolest f*cking specs ever. Practical? No. Heh. It's hard to see through them, but each metal lens flips up, which is pretty cool. I think they were the perfect final touch.

Picture

It's really hard to do a completely unique, monochromatic outfit over and over again. It's not easy to change it up so you don't look like you're wearing something you've already worn. I think the hood trick helped to elevate this look and make it stand out from my previous monochromatic styles.

Click here and here to see two black and white styles I wore in the past. You'll notice that I use some of the same pieces, but each outfit looks completely different.
So, while this outfit may look deceptively simple, it is actually quite complex in terms of the pieces I chose to wear; how I wore them; and how I went about creating the look so that it would be distinct in comparison to past monochromatic outfits.

Come On, Let's Go

The other half of the day was spent in the basement of a pizza joint watching local comedians do improv. :D So, I wanted to put together something I would be comfortable wearing all day and it had to be appropriate for a night out. In that regard, the navy dress was absolutely perfect. I really love the puff shoulders; the pearl buttons; and the textured horizontal lines on the skirt. The fabric is thick, but not heavy, so I was warm outside, but I wasn't burning up in the coffee shop or at the improv show.

Picture

This is something that I wore last weekend. My partner and I were out for most of the day. Half of the time was spent at a coffee shop working. He did his coding stuff or whatever. Honestly, I have no idea what he does. When people ask me what my partner does for a living, my response is usually, "Say what, now?" Hehe. So, while he did...whatever it is that he does, I used the time to figure out exciting ways to teach complex concepts to my international students. Lesson planning is my least favorite part of teaching. Haha. It's time consuming, but obviously necessary and important. The thing is, I hardly need my lesson plan when I'm teaching. As soon as I enter the classroom, I'm on autopilot and I always have a blast. I'm really fortunate to have awesome students who are inquisitive and eager to learn. ^_^

Picture

I added the lace collar, over-sized cat eye glasses, two-toned tights and navy/brown oxfords for a dainty, carefree feel. I have been itching to wear the oxfords ever since I snagged them (with a gift certificate) during a 25% off shoe sale in November. I didn't think I'd wear them until late Spring or Summer, because snow and rain are not kind to suede fabric. For some reason, we keep having these bouts of warm weather and the sidewalks looked clear, so I took a chance. They're so cute! :D

You might recognize my black pom pom hat. I have the same style of hat in four colors. Obsessed much? Yeah, prolly. >_< Heh.
They're really not that expensive at all, though. The hat is just $5.90 and I received it from my sponsor, Oasap. So, yeah. I hope you like this kind of quirky, rather sweet style. I should probably do a scary outfit soon, before people start getting the wrong idea about me. ;D

ModCloth Brown Bag (Sale) & ModCloth Navy/Brown Oxfords (Gift)
