Those of you who watched my video back in August will not be phased by this outfit. Haha. There's no way I could possibly scare you after that and I guess this is a good thing, because now I've freed you up so you can look past the scare factor and give more attention to aesthetic details. Yeah...that's it. ;D Now, for people who don't know me (including people walking by on the street), the fright factor was high and it was pretty glorious. Haha. I feel like I've been waiting forever to do this kind of style.
The Minimalist Style Challenge I did back in June had a palpable impact on my clothing choices. If you look at the kinds of outfits I put together after the challenge ended, you'll see that I made deliberate efforts to do more with less. When you're thinking about how to wear the least amount of items with the most aesthetic impact for an entire month, that way of thinking is bound to stick around for awhile.

I got a little worried though, because layering is what I love to do and what some people would say that I do best. I didn't want to lose that part of myself and I thought I almost had until today. So, it's nice to know that I've still got it, so to speak. Hehe. The fact that it's getting colder really helps. I don't normally pay much attention to the weather when I get dressed. I defy Gaia regularly, but I'll take any excuse to pack on the layers and summer didn't provide many opportunities. Anyway, let's talk about what I did!

Picture

So I started with a sleeveless white asymmetrical dress and I wore it backwards. :D I wanted the sheer overlay to appear on the opposite side of me. To see better views of the dress, click here. I did a futuristic look with it in that post. Here, I wore a collared sleeveless blouse underneath for color contrast and to give the illusion that the top was part of the dress. I added a black sleeveless high low top so that the white overlay would show in the front and only darkness would be seen from the back.

I've gotten so much wear out of this high low top. It's a fantastic layering tool and I'll probably continue to wear it until I'm too old and frail to get it over my head. Haha. Click here and here to see a couple different ways that I've styled the high low top in the past. I made a point of showing you all sides of my outfit so you can see how it is perceived by onlookers based on their position. People walking behind me will have a different experience from people approaching me head on. I love doing this kind of thing.

The galaxy tights helped to break up the black and white scheme and add complexity of color. I finished the outfit with some menacing color changing sunglasses, my favorite pair of buckled, zippered ankle boots, a faux leather jacket and an edgy fringe bag with gold braided handles. I wore this outfit downtown for coffee, cakes and good conversation. :D So, I brought my laptop, a book and some other stuff and threw all of that in my crazy zipper eye canvas bag. Also, I figured the canvas bag would send people over the edge and make them pass out from all of the fear or something. I don't know. Haha.

I'm not sure if my explanation of what I did was straight forward or confusing, but I plan to do a tutorial for this outfit later in the year, so you'll see how I put everything together step by step. I also have an even more complex outfit that I will do using the white asymmetrical dress as a foundation. There will be more layers and textures. It'll be awesome! I have to wait for it to get a little bit colder, though. So, I might not wear that outfit until November/December. I'll do a tutorial for that one, as well. ^_^

I loved every minute of wearing this outfit. I'm really proud of it, so if you have any criticisms, I would ask that you wrap them in pancakes with sprinkles and maple syrup before serving them to me. Haha.

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, haters! I just wore leggings as pants. o_O O_O O_o
Haha! Aww yeah. I can feel your glares of judgment. I'm practically bathing in it! I just got back and what is the first thing I do? I upset people. You know, I wouldn't have it any other way. Haha. Just hear me out, though, dammit!

Save your squinty eyes and wrinkly noses until after I've explained myself. First, let me say that wearing leggings as pants is quite liberating. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to walk around half naked, just wear leggings as pants. Hehe. It really feels like you're wearing nothing at all, nothing at all, nothing at all.. Oh, sorry. Just channeling Ned Flanders, there. Second, I took precautions so that I could avoid the main gripe of people who rail against this practice: i.e. everyone seeing your undies.

Picture

I simply didn't wear underwear. *Cue audience gasp and subsequent rabble rabble rabble.* Now, just hold the f*ck on, people. What did I just say? I said to wait until after my explanation and I'm not done, yet. Geez. So, as I was saying, I didn't wear underwear, because these faux leather leggings are pretty tight. They show every crease and seam, which is probably why I haven't worn them since I bought them last year. I was feeling brave, I guess. Heh. Well, good one, Anna. I'd rather see your underwear than your bare ass. True dat. However, thanks to other precautions, onlookers saw neither. ^_^

Picture

You see, I wore something called Spanx and no, it's not just for olds. Anyone who cares about her appearance can wear Spanx. I have a high waisted pair of Spanx tights and a shorts version. I often wear either of these underneath my clothes. I do it all year round and I'll have you know that I've worn them underneath outfits I've showed on my blog. ;D The great thing about the tights version is that it's opaque; it's tight so it keeps all my giggly bits in order and it has a padded gusset so I can wear it without undies, if I so choose and I did choose. I did choose. So you heard it here first. Haha.

OK, so I put those opaque Spanx tights on and then I put the faux leather leggings on over those and you know what? It totally smoothed me out and it added a layer of dark fabric, so I was completely covered.
There you have it, folks. I wore leggings as pants and nothing bad happened. I didn't get struck by lightning or anything. I might have gotten some disapproving looks from a bunch of olds, but I didn't notice because I was too busy feeling the giggle of my bum as I walked to and fro. Freedom! :D

So....what else am I wearing? Heh. Well, the only other new thing I'm showing off is this dark green spiked cardigan. I wanted to do kind of an urban look, but with a slice of geek chic. The cardigan gave the outfit an edge while the ping pong top brought some levity into the mix. The cardigan isn't as delicate as I thought it would be. I expected some of the spikes to fall off after the first wear, but it's holding up. It's the only green cardigan I have right now and the color is so perfect for Fall, so I hope to get a lot of wear out of it in the coming months. It's too heavy and thick knit to wear in the summer.

Picture

And that's that! If I didn't offend some people with my outfit, then that means I didn't do it, right. So, I expect to rub some people the wrong way with this one, but hopefully I didn't scar anyone for life. Hehe.
