Blogger Spotlight #8: My Kingdom For A Hat

Meet Skye of My Kingdom For A Hat

Picture

One of my best discoveries of last year, it was love at first post with Skye. I love her vintage punk style and the way she clashes colors and prints without a care in the world.

Her style is completely open and free; and her no holds barred approach to fashion is utterly intoxicating.

According to Skye, "I am often accused of being a manic pixie dream girl, but I'd like to fancy myself more cerebral than that." From my own experience reading Skye's blog, I can tell you that her styles have both a theatrical and introspective component. Take this first photo, for example. It's dripping with emotion.

The dress and bare feet, the lighting and the knives. There is a palpable depth that is uncommon in a typical fashion blog. Manic? No. Cerebral?

Yes.

I really like the perspective Skye uses in a lot of her photos. It makes you feel as if you're right there with her.

Her styles are genuine, interesting and kaleidoscopic: three words I would certainly use to describe Skye as a person. Each post is fresh and each outfit is joyfully unpredictable.

Other juicy factoids about Skye: She loves tattoos; she's inspired by religious imagery, fairy tales and pin up beauties; she views her body as a canvas (much like I do); and her partner is a steampunk artist and art director. Is this girl cool or what?

Stalk her on Facebook, go read her blog and show her some love! <3

Tribal Color Blockade

In today's post, I'm returning to bright hues. I've been slipping in and out of color consciousness these past couple of weeks. If I'm going to have one foot in and one foot out, so to speak, I'd prefer that my foot be submerged in a radiant, iridescent puddle. So, with that, I decided to do some color blocking. :D

In fact, what I've done here is so simple that it doesn't require much of an explanation. Hehe. I will say that my goal was to combine as many warm colors as possible, but without looking as drab as the lifeless bushes and bare trees all around me. So, I tempered the darker earthy tones with bright pops of color like orange, yellow and red and I threw in teal and mossy green
as a little something in between.

Of course, by now, you know how much simplicity grates on me. In order to satiate the part of myself that craves complexity, I simply added a patterned backpack. The colors blended in nicely and the tribal patterns made the overall outfit just a little more interesting to look at (at least in my warped view hehe).

Oh and these boots may look familiar to you. They're the dark brown version of these ModCloth boots that I wore in this post. With some expert sleuthing, I was able to find the black version elsewhere (the ones I had received previously were defective) and repurchase it thanks to a generous gift certificate I received over XMAS. I was so happy when I found them, because they were sold out on ModCloth and I really loved them. They're comfortable and the heel height is exactly what I was looking for. When I had discovered the dark brown version, I had to get it, too. So, now I have this boot in three colors. :D

The carrot orange sweater is from Jollychic and it's one of many purchases I made as a winner of the giveaway mentioned in this post. It's rather thin and it has gilded perforations throughout, so it's perfect for Spring/Summer/Fall. I adapted it for Winter by wearing a warm thermal underneath. I look forward to wearing the sweater often (and to showing off the entire garment without freezing to death hehe). The color is great and it has a vintage vibe that I love. I got a Size Large which is two sizes up from normal. The arms fit perfectly and the torso is only a little roomy. Definitely size up, if you're going to buy it!

The sweater also comes in cream and mint, I believe. Oh and be aware that the opening at the top is rather narrow. Trying to get this thing over my head gave me a glimpse into what it must have been like for my mother to give birth to me. Haha. o_O I have a big head, I admit that, but this is the first time I've had to squeeze my noggin into a sweater. So, if your head is shaped like a bowling ball, beware!

Finally, I just want to say that sometimes I feel like my blog is the one place where I can truly be myself and it's OK. No harassment or judgments. Just laughs and fun. ^_^ I wouldn't feel so comfortable expressing myself and sharing my life publicly if it weren't for the wonderful comments you leave for me every week. Your attention to detail, inquisitiveness and kindness keep me going. So, thank you! <3
